“Probably the Best Holiday Cottage we have stayed in!”
In summary a fantastic property beautifully decorated and appointed.
If you love walking and good food/drink you will be in heaven. Dogs are welcome too! We were fortunate to be one of the first guests in this fabulous property located just outside of Cartmel.
We had been looking for a cottage that would accommodate our family of 4 and our dog. Finding cottages that allow dogs and midweek stays are like hens teeth. This is not a cottage it is a mansion and ticked all the boxes. The website is very informative, the communications and payment were very good and exactly how it should be.
Simon is very knowledgeable about the area and sends through good information and even suggestions for local walks.
We couldn’t stop smiling as we parked. The house is huge. Most of the living space is upstairs with a generous well stocked kitchen (we almost felt guilty using the brand new stuff) and a living room with beautiful views across Morecambe bay towards Heysham and beyond.
We all squabbled for prime position in the large swivel chair (a favourite for us all).
Two of the 4 bedrooms (a fifth is available for larger groups) are located upstairs. The master bedroom is beautiful with a massive ensuite, exposed beams and views across the valley. Downstairs is an equally large main bedroom again with ensuite, almost spoilt for choice! There is also a playroom with a keyboard and another TV very useful if, like our family, there is a difference in TV watching habits.
The decor and materials used are of very high quality, the beds very comfortable and the house was very cosy. Outside the enclosed garden (to keep dogs on the inside!) is great for lazing and evening drinks whilst the sun drops below the horizon.
From the house there are numerous easy walks, best to come armed with OS explorer map, OL7, if you wish to enjoy the area and not get too lost. Dropping down the drive there are good walks to Holker hall, and to Cartmel. The easiest is via Walton Hall Farm along a bridleway, takes 20-30 minutes to get into Cartmel. It avoids drinking and driving, especially with such good pubs in the village. It is worth bringing a torch for the return journey.
Up the drive there are great walks. One of these is described in the house details, and leads to How Barrow with great views across the Leven estuary.
The house comes with great suggestions for eating in the area we found the best pub grub was at the Cavendish Arms. The main pubs (Royal Oak & Kings Arms) seem to suffer from short staffing and the wait was a little excessive. Of course no trip to Cartmel would be complete without a trip to L’Enclume or Rogan & Company (we were not disappointed).
There are some great local shops (Cartmel Cheese & Bread and Unsworth Brewery). We travelled to Booths in Ulverston for general food items, great choice/quality albeit a little expensive.
All the properties on the Holidaycottagescumbria website look equally well appointed and we would certainly look forward to staying here again. Top marks! – The Grove Family, Stockton-on-Tees, County Durham

A beautiful, well designed house with exceptional attention to detail. Fantastic location and stunning views! Perfect.
We feel privileged to be the first customers/guests as this is a fantastic property both in relation to location but also the high standard of furnishings, equipment and decor.
Well done Simon in adding Cartmel Hill to your portfolio of holiday properties.
We had a great weekend, a nice walk over to Grange, visited the usual haunts and had lunch at Rogan & Company which was spot on.
Excellent attention to detail Simon, we would love to return in the future – David & Jane, Northallerton, North Yorkshire
